“And freedom is given”
“And freedom is given”
Leah Moses—my beloved teacher, editor, friend, and truly intelligent person—currently works in the office of Assemblyman William Colton, helping many people. But for many years, she worked at the newspaper "R. Reklama."
Her articles were always vibrant, profound, and memorable. She had a knack for finding themes and stories that not only captured attention, but enriched the reader, made them think, and opened up new horizons.
Leah Moses recently published And Freedom is Granted, which is available for purchase from TheBookPatch.
The book's genre is difficult to pin down. It combines elements of dystopia, philosophical parable, social satire, postmodernist game, and even romantic comedy. One could say it's a dystopia with a happy, or at least hopeful, ending. An optimistic dystopia.
The book's pages combine topical themes with timeless ones. "And Freedom Is Given" is an unflattering portrait of modern society, with its radicalization and polarization, the worship of dubious leaders, brainwashing, and the embitterment and brutalization of its people. At the same time, it is a story about friendship and love, about fathers and children, about loyalty and betrayal, about justice and freedom.
It is also interesting that art lovers will find references to famous works of literature and cinema in the book and even recognize their favorite (or least favorite) characters.
I won't go into detail about the book's plot lines. I'll just quote the synopsis, which can be found on TheBookPatch's website.
"Christophoria, the most developed country in the New World, which for many years attracted dreamers, freethinkers and adventurers, split into two - the right Maga and the left Daka.
In the Old World, wars are constantly raging between conservative and liberal states. The deadly Tiaravirus, born either in the bazaars of the East or in the laboratories of the West, is spreading across the planet.
Fierce people fight in both real and virtual spaces, dealing with enemies on battlefields and on popular social networks like MyStory and OurChute. In this atmosphere of anger and hostility, two elderly people, a man and a woman, try to preserve their love for each other, find common ground with their children, and restore hope for a better future.
The book's title is based on an aphorism by the legendary Rabbi Akiva: "Everything is foreseen, and freedom is given, and the world is judged well, and everything is according to the multitude of deeds." This aphorism from Pirkei Avot (a Mishnah tractate containing sayings of Jewish sages) also serves as an epigraph to the entire book.
It remains only to say that the cover was designed by two wonderful, talented women with a unique vision of the world and refined taste: artist Alla Mirilashvili and designer Diana Keigen , who, by the way, also works for the newspaper "R.Reklama".
