Light will conquer darkness
During Hanukkah, Jews light candles. These are the days of the national Jewish holiday of miracle and salvation. An evening took place in Kyiv in support of Israel, a state that is waging war against Hamas, and in solidarity with the Jewish community of Ukraine, which takes a large part and provides assistance in Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
The evening was organized by Keren Kayemet Le Israel - the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF-Ukraine), the Israeli Embassy in Ukraine and a number of Jewish organizations in Ukraine.
The evening was attended by a Ukrainian pop star, a female leader, the outstanding singer Tina Karol and other famous Ukrainian artists.
Films are shown about the tragic events in the south of Israel and the IDF battles in the Gaza Strip, as well as about what is happening in the conflict zone in Ukraine.
Speaking at the evening, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Brodsky said: “From the very beginning of the war in Israel, we have received broad support from Ukraine. This evening of solidarity is an unprecedented event that reflects the closeness and common destiny of the two countries. The event takes place during Hanukkah, which gives special symbolism. Our message is that light will overcome darkness in both Israel and Ukraine."
At the evening, the President of the KKL-JNF-Ukraine Andrei Zaika spoke: “Israel is going through difficult days of war after a barbaric terrorist attack on civilians in the country. The people of Israel demonstrate unity and cohesion. We, together with the people of Israel, are confident in victory. War was also imposed on Ukraine, and "It has been going on for a very long time. We have gathered here to support the people of Israel and Ukraine and to pray for a speedy onset of peace."
General Director of KKL-JNF-Eurasia Igal Yasinov said that “in these days, when a muddy wave of anti-Semitism has risen all over the world, the solidarity of the peoples of Ukraine and Israel is of particular importance.
The Jewish National Fund is at the forefront of the fight to support Israel's just struggle for the right to live in peace."
