The first AAPC regional office for Central Asia opened in Tashkent.
New York, July 2025. The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), the leading international organization for medical coding and billing professionals, announced the establishment of its first regional chapter in Central Asia. AAPC trains and certifies professionals who work within the healthcare payment process, performing different but interrelated functions.
Coding specialists translate patient and service information into codes, and billers submit them for payment requests. The new office is based in Tashkent, the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The opening of the Tashkent branch was made possible thanks to the support and participation of WCH Service Bureau, a long-standing strategic partner of the AAPC and a recognized expert in medical billing, coding, accreditation, and regulatory compliance. With offices throughout the CIS, WCH possesses a unique understanding of regional specifics and the necessary resources to successfully develop a professional community in Central Asia.
"We greatly appreciate the partnership with WCH and their local support in facilitating the expansion of our chapters and membership benefits into new regions of the world," says Dan Schwebach, Senior Vice President of AAPC. The new chapter will provide access to cutting-edge educational programs and a global professional community, fostering the development of highly qualified personnel in Uzbekistan and beyond.
"We are honored to be part of the launch of the AAPC chapter in Tashkent," notes Tatyana Kantor, CPB, president of the Tashkent chapter and head of billing at WCH. "Our mission is not only to educate but also to create a dynamic system for professional growth and international exchange."
The department's leadership team is represented by experienced industry professionals: Vice President Vyacheslav Kurdov, CPC, an expert in appeals and medical documentation, Educational Programs Manager Elizaveta Bannova, CPC, CPCO, CPMA, CFPC, and the department's Financial Director Oksana Vaulina, CIPA.
Vyacheslav Kurdov's years of experience in medical claims appeals and document review have shaped his commitment to impeccable accuracy. "Working with appeals and accurately processing medical records requires a deep understanding of the industry," he notes. "High-quality preparation for AAPC exams and ongoing professional development are essential for continuously improving skills in medical coding and billing." Vyacheslav recommends active participation in chapter events and professional discussions to maximize the opportunities of AAPC membership.
Elizaveta Banova's professional experience in healthcare has helped her understand the importance of administrative support. "Working with medical billing, regulatory compliance, and provider support have shown me the significant impact non-clinical roles have on the efficient operation of medical institutions," Elizaveta notes. "Our department is designed to make a significant contribution to the development of a sustainable and highly professional community of medical coding specialists." The virtual programs developed by Elizaveta are suitable for both experienced medical coders and billing specialists, as well as beginners with basic knowledge looking to master a new profession.
The chapter's activities include regular online educational courses, specialized certification webinars, international professional initiatives, and comprehensive mentoring programs. Chapter members will have the opportunity to interact with leading industry experts and gain knowledge and certifications that meet modern healthcare standards.
