We are not afraid!
We are not afraid!
Despite the bitter cold, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Borough Park after work and school to protest after Hamas supporters came and staged a rally in the center of the Jewish neighborhood, waving Palestinian flags and shouting aggressive slogans.
In response, the protesters chanted "Am Yisrael Chai!" and held Israeli and American flags. Many noted that Hamas supporters had specially invited followers of the infamous Neturei Karta sect. These are people who dress as religious Jews, who are not respected by anyone, not even by those who pay them, and who are not even considered Jews by the Jews. They appeared at other rallies, and even at the Salute to Israel parade.
The Neturei Karta sect (translated from Aramaic as "Guardians of the City") is an extremely radical movement that opposes the existence of the State of Israel. Their followers publicly support anti-Israeli regimes, collaborate with terrorist groups and participate in actions directed against the Jewish state. While pretending to be religious Jews, they are in fact playing on the side of those who seek to destroy Israel.
In recent months, anti-Semitism has been rapidly increasing around the world, and especially in the United States. Jewish neighborhoods have faced violent demonstrations, attacks, and threats. The counter-protest in Borough Park was not only an expression of solidarity with Israel, but also a necessary response to the wave of hatred that has engulfed the streets of New York.
A huge thank you to Ari Kagan, a strong and vibrant leader for Jewish rights who can be found at various rallies and in Holocaust Park in Brooklyn, in Manhattan and at marches for the release of hostages, as well as Karen Lichtbraun, Stephanie Benchimol, Robert Perl, Anna Shpilkovskaya and everyone who spent this winter evening protesting against
aggressive anti-Semites!
Special thanks to the 66th Precinct and other law enforcement officers who kept the Borough Park community safe despite provocations from Hamas supporters who started a fight.
The rally was attended by former Assembly member Dov Chaikin, as well as many local activists and yeshiva students who came out in support of Israel, the Jewish community and their peaceful neighborhood.
People stood together despite the cold and tiredness after work. The winter day was no obstacle!
As for the followers of Neturei Karta: whoever they call themselves, whoever they disguise themselves as, their behavior evokes only shame and disgust, and many consider them clowns in disguise. I remember talking to one of them when I met him outside the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan, when there was an exhibit and event dedicated to the Holocaust. They told stories on the street, but it was impossible to enter
The museum was feared.
