Welcome Care Festival in Brighton
On October 21, the Welcome Care home care agency celebrated the opening of a new branch with great fanfare. Now, for the convenience of people who want to become part of the team, the agency is located in the heart of Brighton Beach, at 1035 Brighton Beach Ave.
For over 21 years, the agency, led by Svetlana Berlin and Semyon Skalt (phone 718-232-4850), has provided reliable assistance to thousands of New York families. Providing high-quality in-home care for seniors and people with disabilities, Welcome Care helps anyone who speaks a language other than Russian. In addition, many have found jobs with the agency, which has changed their lives for the better.
The grand opening was led by State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, who presented Welcome Care with a certificate of honor. Participants were pleased to meet with agency executive Zina Bubis, who always has words of encouragement for both elderly clients and home care workers.
One of the highlights was the presence of a distinguished public figure and a favorite of our community, former City Council member Ari Kagan, now the Director of Public Relations at Welcome Care. His presence was a landmark event for both the agency staff and those receiving professional care. Welcome Care’s administration and staff are happy to welcome all new visitors and are ready to answer any questions.
As children, many of us dreamed of becoming astronauts, scientists, but life, especially in immigration, dictates its own terms. Many, having arrived in the United States, found reliable work in the care sector, gradually bought housing, began to travel and help their children. I am pleased to remember how in 2002, at a rally in Manhattan, together with Ari Kagan and other leaders, we achieved an increase in the wages of home care workers. Then, 22 years ago, they were paid only $ 5 an hour, but thanks to the efforts of unions and our rallies, the wages were increased to $ 10. And four years before the pandemic, we achieved an increase in wages to $ 20. Welcome Care now pays $ 21.09. It is pleasant to remember how, together with Ari Kagan, we met with politicians and achieved the appearance of Russian-speaking translators at the elections, although the voting materials were never translated into Russian.
It is also worth noting that Welcome Care offers free training that allows you to quickly obtain a sought-after and well-paid profession for anyone who wants to dedicate their life to caring for those in need (phone 718-232-4850).
Particularly joyful was the presence at the opening of famous community leaders: President of the Bagrationi Foundation Diana Bagrationi, Rabbi David Okunev, Anna Malkina, Tatyana Kozlova, Sanobar Babokhanova, Bella Akhmechet, Leonid Nor, as well as famous journalists Anatoly Rivkin, Lev Rudskoy and many others.
