I have upgraded it: it now uses Poret 40 sponge for mechanical filtration (NEW), Biostars (included) for biological filtration, and I also recommend using special carbon that will need to be replaced after 6 months (not included). In my opinion, this filter is suitable for aquariums from 10 to 30 gallons. I have been breeding freshwater angelfish for over 30 years and am now retired.
