Bridge of Friendship and Solidarity between the USA and Ukraine – Celebration in Brooklyn

The celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day, a sign of friendship and solidarity between the United States and Ukraine, took place at the Shorefront-Y Jewish Center in Brighton, becoming a vivid demonstration of support for the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom.
The event was hosted by Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, with the active participation of his office staff. Among the guests of honor were State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and Assemblyman Alec Brooke-Krasny, who in their speeches expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their liberation struggle.
Despite his busy schedule, Hakeem Jeffries found time to personally meet with residents of the 8th District, with whom he has maintained warm relations for 12 years. His words inspired the audience once again: "Freedom and democracy unite the United States and Ukraine. America is doing everything possible so that Ukraine can stand and defend itself. This is in the national interest of the United States. We will be with Ukraine until its Victory."
It is worth noting that at any time, in the heat and during the pandemic, Hakim Jeffries came to Brighton to personally talk to people and hear their problems. You can no longer say: "Didn't get an appointment - didn't see the Congressman." The employees of his office are very helpful to people, Russian-speaking people work in the office, and for many they have become free lawyers.
Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Makarova addressed those present, telling about the courage and fortitude of the Ukrainian people in the fight against the aggressor for 913 days. She noted that the patriotism and strength of spirit of the Ukrainian people cause admiration throughout the world. The appearance of Ukrainian flags in many countries, as well as concerts of singers, dancers and musicians confirm this. "May God bless America, where they sincerely help us," said Oksana Makarova.
The event was attended by the Director of the Immigration Department Emanuel Castro, attorney and Chair of the Housing Committee on Community Board 13 Tatyana Segal, employee of the New York Auditor's Department Sergey Chuprik, Mark Treyger, who heads a Jewish organization that actively helps people, including refugees from Ukraine, as well as district leader Angela Kravchenko and others. Representatives of various organizations helping Ukrainian refugees also took part in this event.
In New York, Ukrainian refugees found warmth and shelter, and it remains to be hoped that peace in Ukraine will come soon. The American and Ukrainian anthems were also played at the event, symbolizing the friendship and unity of the two nations.
Many years have passed, and I remember with great warmth my teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, Sofya Tikhonovna Kolyada, thanks to whom I remember the Ukrainian language and many classics of Ukrainian literature, although I was born and lived in the Russian-speaking city of Kharkov, where today worthy people live, showing not in words what patriotism is.
