Welcome to Brighton Beach!

I have lived in Brighton for many years and love the area and its people. It is always a pleasure to see people come here to bask in the sun, swim in the ocean, walk along the promenade and breathe in the fresh air. Of course, Brighton has changed over the years.
Yes, many famous Russian restaurants and boutiques have disappeared, and Russian speech is now less often heard here, but the Tashkent store continues to please with its quality and culture of service. True, it is very difficult to find a place to leave a car.

Unfortunately, not all visitors to the area care about cleanliness and throw rubbish past the bins, which are probably not enough. Brighton's embankment remains a subject of constant discussion, and people continue to trip and fall. Compensation paid by the city for injuries sometimes exceeds the cost of repairs that could be carried out by replacing expensive natural boards with more modern and durable materials. Is anyone lobbying for the use of natural expensive wood on the embankment? Other areas of the city have long been using more modern and reliable materials. Let's see what happens next.
It is worth noting that many people visited the annual Brighton Fair, which takes place on the last Sunday in August and is organised by the Brighton Residents Association (President Pat Singer). It is always an interesting event, attracting hundreds of people.
I was very happy to meet the legendary man, the pride of our nation, who turned 103 on September 3, the president of the American Association of Disabled and Veterans of World War II Leonid Borisovich Rosenberg. Recently, an American film about the heroes of World War II was released, in which he took part, and his interview in this film is unique. But I would like to mention his wonderful children, who can be an example for many. His son Alexander Rosenberg, daughter Flora and daughter-in-law are always next to him. Leonid Borisovich was, as always, elegantly dressed in a blue shirt. His son always makes sure that his dad looks neat, is shaved, has a haircut and smells of perfume. These are the kind of people who live in Brighton Beach!
It was nice to meet the famous Rabbai Nathan Arister, who holds Friday dinners at the synagogue on 11 Brighton. It is worth noting that not only Jews come to his synagogue, and he is glad to see everyone. Over the long years of our acquaintance, Rabbai Nathan Arister became an American MD and worked at Coney Island Hospital during the pandemic, and now works at Maimonides Hospital.
I was pleased to meet representatives of the company "Evening New York" and saw how visitors to the fair eagerly sorted through Russian-language newspapers, including my favorite newspaper "R.Reklama". This is not surprising, because many New Yorkers who have come from different countries speak Russian. For them, our newspaper is not just a reference book, but a useful source of information. Thanks to "R.Reklama" you can find a job, rent an apartment, find a good doctor and much more.
Politicians were present, with some fairgoers rushing to take photos with them and others asking questions. Democrats and Republicans were present, but they did not debate each other. Some candidates for office advertised themselves in front of a poster of Donald Trump.
Those who love shopping could spend their money on various little things: souvenirs, T-shirts, underwear, antique dishes, paintings and figurines. I also bought another elephant with a raised trunk in the hope that it would bring happiness and good luck to my home and my family. I am sharing a photo so that the elephant will bring happiness to your families too.
You could try corn cooked on coals, but, alas, you will no longer find traditional pies and vareniki, typical for small Odessa, at the fair. Everything changes, both in New York and in life. But at the fair you could still hear Russian songs performed by talented children, see fiery Russian dances to loud music, which pleased the guests of Brighton. Of course, it was nice to hear the Honored Artist of Ukraine Lyudmila Fesenko, as well as the music of American Indians, seeing their rare musical instruments.
