Evening to support State Senate candidate Steven Chen
Before the presidential election of a great country, various events are held where voters get to know the candidates running for various elected positions.
The Russian-speaking community is no exception and shows interest in people who are ready to represent their interests. Our newspaper introduces readers to various candidates, especially when there are many Russian-speaking guests at events who are interested in politics and who are not indifferent to everything that is happening at the moment. Recently, the Baku Lights restaurant hosted a gala evening in support of the Republican candidate for the State Senate from the 17th district, the tireless Steven Chen. The district includes the vibrant neighborhoods of Bensonhurst, parts of Gravesend, Bath Beach, Dyker Heights and Sunset Park.
As always, the host of the evening, a famous journalist and politician, former city council member, respected Ari Kagan, gave an interesting and bright speech. He called Stephen Chen a true American hero who risked his life to protect the safety of the country and New York.
Steven Chen, a Hong Kong native and Bensonhurst resident, served 6 years in the valiant U.S. Marines and was a fearless police sergeant in South Brooklyn for 27 years. Married, caring father of two girls. Stephen Chen was the energetic president of the parent-teacher association at his daughter's school for several years. After retiring from the police, he managed successful businesses - a thriving flower shop and a real estate agency.
However, Steven Chen could not watch without pain as socialists and the most left-wing Democratic politicians in New York cut vital budgets for police, prison guards, garbage collection and support for small businesses, and pass laws that free criminals from punishment. So he decided to run for the state Senate as a candidate for the Republican and Conservative parties. His opponent, incumbent state Sen. Even Chu, has secured the support of the Democratic and left-leaning Working Families Party.
At the evening, his loyal friends and colleagues spoke in support of Steven Chen - state Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, the legendary Curtis Sliwa, head of the Guardian Angels organization, as well as the leaders of the Republican and Conservative parties of Brooklyn Richie Barsamian and Fran Vella-Maroney. They spoke not only of Steven Chen's courage and dedicated service to the police and Marines, but also how his election on November 5 would destroy the Democrats' supermajority in the State Senate and help stop further middle-class tax hikes, the destruction of law enforcement and deteriorating quality school education.
The event was attended by many Russian-speaking leaders and activists: Oleg Zinkovetsky, Georgy Kozhar, Alla and Dmitry Lisovetsky, district Republican leaders Svetlana Zelinskaya and David Sepiashvili. The talented singer Nini Shermadini performed the US anthem and the song “New York, New York” superbly.
Stephen Chen has proven throughout his eventful life that he is the personification of the “American Dream.” He expressed sincere gratitude to the Russian-speaking community of South Brooklyn for their warm support and promised to justify our trust as a state senator.
Events like this are interesting because it is an opportunity to see different politicians and ask them questions in person.
