Opening of a youth center in Brighton
A teen center, Cteen Brighton Beach - FREE, was recently opened at the synagogue at 2901 Brighton 6 Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11235, which was led for many years by Rabbay Gersh Okunev and Gabbay Isaac Lieberman.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe inspired many Russian-speaking Jews by giving one dollar, which is kept by many immigrants as a talisman. His advice became a path to life for many.
Cteen Center brings together teenagers through interesting programs to benefit society by harnessing their potential and energy, guiding them in the right direction. The Lubavitcher Rebbe believed in the power of youth and believed in making the teenage years a time of determination and self-discovery.
The center's mission is to create a supportive environment in which adolescents can explore themselves, with a focus on positive character development.
The Okunev family has done a lot of good. Rabbi Gersh Okunev many years ago officially became an envoy of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who told him that a large aliyah was expected from Russia, and he should become a spiritual mentor for Russian-speaking Jews. People who came from the countries of the former CIS, cut off from their national traditions, had difficulty believing that Jewish life could exist in Brighton, and it would not be dangerous.
Rabbi Gersh Okunev lived in another area of New York, in the summer he spent the night on the roof of the synagogue, and in the morning he went to the ocean, took people by the hand and brought them to the synagogue. And whenever you come to the synagogue, if you meet Rebbe Gersh Okunev and Gabbay Isaac Lieberman, you will feel welcome.
Respected man Isaac Lieberman has been working with Rabbai Gersh Okunev for many years. He is an elder in the synagogue.
Many years ago, Rabbi Gersh Okunev introduced Isaac Lieberman to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, from whom, fortunately, he also received one dollar.
And from then on, the synagogue in Brighton became a house of learning and meeting. Gabbay Isaac Lieberman is an administrator at the synagogue. He has a lot of work to do.
It is worth noting that although Brighton has changed a lot these days, the synagogue on 6 Brighton has a worthy change. In Rebbe Okunev's family, children continue family traditions, and the recently organized center for teenagers is now very much needed. It is headed by his son Menachem Okunev. On the fourth Brighton, Rabbi David Okunev heads the Jewish Center, where many Brighton residents, regardless of religion, receive food. There is Mazel Day School in Brighton - a private school for young children, headed by Rabbai Avrum Okunev and Rebbetz Hani Okunev. So Jewish life in Brighton continues for the People of the Book.
