Republican Club, where the Community comes first
The idea for a new Republican club comes from a man well known in our community: Ari Kagan, a former New York City Council member and talented television and radio journalist.
Ari Kagan has many friends and supporters. People often recognize him on the street, and come up to him to ask questions or seek advice. He's approachable, always ready to listen and offer advice—sometimes his recommendations are valued as much as professional consultation.
Although Ari Kagan is not running for any political office this year, he says he cannot remain aloof from the life of South Brooklyn. That's why, last December, he and his fellow activists founded a new political club, the Community First Republican Club.
The club's primary mission is to support Republican candidates for elected office and to advocate for the interests of residents of South Brooklyn communities. Club meetings are not just about discussing the political situation and supporting candidates. The club's organizers strive to invite interesting and outstanding people—representatives of public organizations, journalists, and specialists from various fields. This makes the meetings lively and informative. For example, at the February meeting, David Ben-Hurin, publisher of the influential American conservative Jewish media company The Jewish Voice, addressed the club members. He discussed his journey in journalism and publishing, as well as the role of modern media—print publications, online portals, and other media platforms—in shaping public opinion and covering events in New York, the United States, Israel, and other countries. According to Ben-Hurin, a talented Russian-speaking Jewish woman, who assisted him in the project's development, played a significant role in the publication's creation and development.
In particular, those gathered warmly welcomed Sarita Komatireddy, a seasoned federal prosecutor known for her work fighting terrorism, corruption, and crime. She is running for New York State Attorney General against incumbent Democratic Attorney General Letitia James. The club also expressed support for state senator Stephen Chen, congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, and others in the upcoming elections. The March meeting also proved rich and engaging. Assembly members, community activists, and experts from various fields addressed the participants. A presentation by Dr. Henry Zhu, a Chinese psychologist from the Bensonhurst area, attracted particular attention. Anna Shpilkovskaya, an active young woman who writes and speaks well and always strives to help people, gave an engaging presentation. According to meeting participants, the club's atmosphere is open and friendly, so many come not only for politics but also to socialize and exchange opinions. People find friends and even life partners here.
