"Theater 86"
"Theater 86"
Recently it became known that the “Russian Art Theater and Studio” has now been renamed and will be called “Theater 86”.
In Alexey Burago's performances you can always see real theater, wonderful performances by wonderful actors, to whom the Stage Master, Alexey Burago, passes on his skills. There have always been and, of course, there will be American spectators in the theater, theater connoisseurs, performances were performed in English, and there have always been Russian-speaking intellectual spectators. There were also extraordinary decorations, surreal and highly professional.
The theater was created in 2004. When the situation changed, the theater tried to stay away from politics, not because they remained deaf to the events around them, but because they hoped that the theater could become a home for everyone who needed it. Everything that was considered unfair, cruel and inhumane was tried to be expressed on stage in the words of Gogol, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Pushkin, Bulgakov, Mayakovsky, Tsvetaeva, Akhmatova, Pasternak, Mandelstam, Bunin, Berberova, and in recent years - expressed in the words of Moliere, Roald Dahl , George Orwell, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Dante Alighieri. Over time, the theater became an international family on 86th Street in Manhattan. The Pushkin Hall hosted performances with the participation of actors native to Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, France, Germany, Italy, Guinea-Bissau, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, China, Israel, Turkey, Armenia, Australia, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Serbia. Theater actors are united by the desire to create. As Alexey Burago wrote: “At our core, we are New York expat misfits who endure this cramped, overpriced city because we value its diversity, different opinions and the freedom to express them. We feel that the time has come to give ourselves a name devoid of any nationality. That is why we are announcing our new name: “Theater 86”. (It's also a lucky number because it's a short form of the phrase "sold out.") As we continue our work on 86th Street, we hope you'll join us for the final chapter of our story.
And may God bless everyone!"
