New York State Senator Steve Chen and his top adviser, Ari Kagan, unexpectedly witnessed a violent street fight in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood, at the intersection of Avenue U and East 16th Street. They had just left a meeting of community leaders discussing the construction of a homeless shelter on Coyle Street.

Memory remains with us
It's difficult to write about two creative figures known and respected in New York's Russian-speaking community and in many countries around the world. It's especially hard to believe that, almost overnight, two people whose voices echoed on radio and television for generations—Mikhail Gulko and Alexander Grant—passed away.
